The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has scheduled an informational meeting to update the community about the status of the WR Grace Superfund site and discuss possible future reuses of the Acton portion of the site.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2020, from 7–9pm, via Microsoft Teams, a meeting platform that is similar to Zoom. A link to access the meeting will be announced as the meeting date approaches, and will be posted through Green Acton’s email lists and on its Facebook page. Town officials, relevant Town committees, community groups, and abutters will receive invitations directly from the EPA, but any interested resident is encouraged to attend.
The meeting is expected to include:
- a review of the history of the site, including the recent establishment of a Conservation Restriction on part of the site
- an update on the status of the Superfund site cleanup
- a description of WR Grace plans for a solar array on part of the site
- discussion of other potential future uses
- ample opportunity for community Q&A.
The meeting will be led by the EPA’s site Remedial Project Manager, Chris Smith, along with Community Involvement Coordinator Sarah White. Representatives from WR Grace and Grace’s contractor de maximis will be present to answer questions, as well.
No major new announcements are expected. This meeting has been requested by community members as an opportunity to learn more about the status of this large property in our town and share thoughts about potential future uses.
Green Acton and its predecessor organization, ACES, have a long history of involvement with environmental issues at the WR Grace site. Historical coverage of the Grace site from Green Acton and ACES can be accessed from Green Acton’s WR Grace page. Additional information to help people formulate questions and suggestions for the Feb. 3 EPA meeting will be posted on the Green Acton website in coming weeks.
