Mission:

In the context of the Climate Emergency, the Green Acton Energy Committee researches, educates, and collaborates on, and advocates for, the rapid and equitable transition to a renewably powered future at the local level (and at the regional, state, and national levels, when useful). The committee may focus on such issues as energy generation, distribution, storage, and use across sectors.

The committee’s work may address, for example, energy conservation and efficiency, electrification in the building and transportation sectors, advancing renewable generation and distribution, the need for grid modernization, and other energy-related matters.

Get Involved:

The Energy Committee currently meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 6pm via Zoom; that said, please check the Green Acton website calendar for any changes to that schedule. The committee invites and welcomes new participants to these meetings. If you’d like to learn more about the committee’s work, you can sign up to be on the Energy Committee email announcements listserv; please reach out if you would like to be included, or to contact the committee for any reason: energy-contact@GreenActon.org.

Recent Accomplishments:

• In 2020, the Energy Committee helped advocate for the Acton Climate Coalition Town Meeting Warrant Article on Declaring a Climate Emergency; in 2021, we did the same for the Building with Clean Energy Warrant Articles (which created a bylaw proscribing fossil fuel hookups in new construction and significant rehabs, as well as the relevant Home Rule Petition). Both were highly successful.

• Since 2017, members of the Energy Committee have been primary promoters of Acton Power Choice, Acton’s municipally vetted and administered, town-wide, electricity supply program, and the 100% renewable (Class I RECs) option (Acton Power Choice GREEN), in particular.
