Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances are a family of human-made chemicals. They have been widely used in industrial and consumer products, and are widespread in the environment. They are associated with various adverse health effects in humans. Pregnant women, infants, nursing mothers, and immunocompromised individuals are especially sensitive to PFAS impacts.
Green Acton began actively following PFAS in 2020, when (a) PFAS was found in Acton’s groundwater and (b) MassDEP declared a Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for PFAS. Green Acton’s PFAS posts to date, in reverse chronological order, have been:
