In Spring 2024, Green Acton supported a Warrant Article at Town Meeting that would have phased out the use of most gas-powered leaf blowers (GLBs). Town Meeting members ultimately voted to send the article to the Acton Select Board for further review and potential revision, and likely, a reappearance at a future Town Meeting.
Meanwhile, the Green Acton Energy Committee strongly advocated for that article (and more broadly, supports the transition from gas-powered to electric landscape equipment) because all internal combustion equipment, whether a leaf blower or a car, contributes to greenhouse gas emissions that exacerbate the Climate Emergency.
The Green Acton Energy Committee has recently done some research to provide residents with information on landscape service providers who will use battery electric, rather than gas-powered, leaf blowers for Acton clients. The listing of these services, below, does not constitute any endorsement of these businesses by Green Acton; it simply shows the results of inquiries to 27 service providers on whether they do, or would, use Battery Powered Leaf Blowers (BLBs) for customers in Acton. These five, below, responded in the affirmative.
