Dear Friend of Acton’s Future:

We hope this finds you and yours navigating these challenging times as well as possible.

If you are seeking to “think globally and act locally” on our current environmental challenges, investing in Green Acton is a good starting point. With your help, we can continue to make progress on our mission: “to protect and enhance Acton’s natural environment and resources for present and future generations, and to help resolve the urgent environmental issues that transcend Acton’s boundaries.”

A modest budget lets our all-volunteer group pursue a range of initiatives. Our work is funded by our annual campaign — whose time has come again. We’re asking Green Acton members, patrons, followers, and community members for support. As you plan your end-of-year or holiday giving, please consider including Green Acton in your generosity.

Between their research, monitoring, remote collaboration, and/or advocacy, our Water, Land Use, Energy, and Materials/Plastics committees have kept moving on their 2020 goals. For example:

  • More than 100 people attended an October 14th digital forum, jointly sponsored by Green Acton and the League of Women Voters–Acton Area, on PFAS in Acton’s drinking water. If you missed that event, you can view the recording on our website.
  • A deep dive into the status of public shade trees, and how better to preserve and protect them, has resulted in recent GA recommendations to the Town both on assessing the dollar value of such trees, and on improving the Town vetting process for new development in order to avoid destruction and damage to our valuable public trees. (See this Green Acton website post.)
  • At the September 8, 2020 Town Meeting, voters passed two GA-promoted Warrant Articles: (1) the Acton Climate Coalition’s declaration of a Climate Emergency (GA was a significant participant in that effort), and (2) purchase of the Piper Lane parcels for conservation land through Community Preservation Act Open Space Set-Aside Funds, which Green Acton supported.
  • In addition, Green Acton members continue to attend meetings of Town boards and committees, and the Acton Water District Commissioners, and learn and share information relevant to these issues

We’re seeking funds to help us operate as environmental eyes, ears, hands, and hearts for our beloved community. Green Acton is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit; thus, any donations not only are tax deductible, but also, are eligible for matching donations from some employers. (So don’t forget to ask.)

Be a voice for a greener, more-sustainable future for Acton: please consider including us in your end-of-year giving, and forward this to anyone you think would also value the work of protecting and preserving our environment.

Contributions can be made in two ways:
• with a credit card via the Green Acton website: www.GreenActon.org
• by check via U.S. mail (made payable to Green Acton): Green Acton, Inc., PO Box 1123, Acton, MA 01720

Please reach out to Green Acton with any questions or ideas you may have about our work or about environmental issues in our community.

Last, if you have not yet become a Green Acton member, it’s very easy and doesn’t obligate you other than to endorse our mission. We invite you to join us.

With gratitude,

The Green Acton Fundraising Committee:
