rrr.icon.landingFrom Cathy Fochtman, Recreation Director:

Good news, the State recycling MassDEP SMRP Grant came through and I can be reimbursed for up to $1,250 for the purchase of recycling bin containers.

There are stipulations about the procurement and public outreach, which I will incorporate into the program, to be rolled out spring 2015.  I had a couple of bin styles in mind, but I will reevaluate within the constraints set forth by the grant.  I’ll be researching the choices next week and will let you know, while incorporating your input about ganging trash with recycling.  Makes sense.

Here’s the grant detail, if you haven’t already seen it:

Small Scale Initiative (Public Space and Outdoor Event Recycling Containers)    $1,250

  • Execute the Grant Agreement before February 1, 2015
  • Procurement
Equipment purchased under this agreement must either :

o   Be purchased from Statewide Contract FAC61

o   Adhere to a 30% recycled content for all non-metal equipment

o   Be purchased from another State Contract

  • Publicity and Outreach

o   I’ll seek some input from the State for examples from other communities

o   They want the following statement on publicity tools:
“This project is funded in part from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.”

o   Anything printed shall be double-sided and on 30% post-consumer recycled paper.

  • Submit reimbursement request to the MassDEP before June 30, 2015

So I have the added incentive to meet grant requirements. It’s timely!
