People in Acton often have items, which they no longer want or need, that are in fine shape for someone else to use. Imagine a space at the Transfer Station where people could leave such items, and perhaps find other items they might want to take!
Here’s how this looks in Wellesley:
This happens informally already at our Transfer Station, at the large metals and rigid plastics areas, and to some extent on the sidewalk in front of the trash area.
The Zero Waste group is working with the Town of Acton to establish a permanent swap shed at the Transfer Station. Having a staffed area would mean a safe, dry, social, organized, and fun place to take and leave items, and would ensure that hazardous materials get redirected to the right place.
